It aims to stimulate, collect, manage and distribute local, Italian and international artistic and intellectual resources through collaboration with organisations, academies and institutions. The Foundation promotes awards, scholarships, festivals and exhibitions. Virna's most striking virtue, yet least known to the public, was her altruism and her respect for the profession, for her audience whom she loved like family, and for young people, whom she wisely considered the future of her beloved art. To carry on this message of professionalism and love, her family established the "Fondazione Virna Lisi" to reward the best female talent in the world of entertainment and began its work by establishing and managing, in collaboration with the Rome Film Festival, the "Premio Virna Lisi", now in its eighth edition.
Initiatives
The Virna Lisi Foundation is moving forward with a series of initiatives
- Awarding scholarships to young creative talent in collaboration with the Cineteca Nazionale.
- For the tenth anniversary of Virna's passing, an exhibition is being set up in Jesi, her hometown, in collaboration with the Cineteca Nazionale.
- Restoring and screening a selection of film prints from past years that are unfortunately deteriorating—works of art made by our great actors, directors and technicians who taught the world how to make cinema. With the aim of offering new generations wonderful alternatives and food for thought from our rich social and cultural past.
- The Foundation began by restoring, with Istituto Luce Cinecittà, the film Tenderly by Franco Brusati (1968) with George Segal.
- Establishing a permanent international touring exhibition that, following the thread of Virna Lisi's professional career, rediscovers, commemorates and enhances the historical importance of our cinema.
